ANGOR CHUI PRIMARY SCHOOL
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and build a brighter future. By investing in this school we can turn that opportunity into a reality.
We are raising funds to build and equip a complete eight-classroom primary school campus in Aweil, South Sudan, where roughly seven in ten school-age children are not enrolled in school (UNICEF, 2026). Many children who do attend school learn outdoors, sitting on the ground beneath trees and facing harsh conditions such as extreme heat, wind, rain, and poisonous insects. These conditions create significant challenges for both students and educators, limiting opportunities for effective teaching and learning.
This project will provide a safe, supportive learning environment through the construction and equipping of a primary school campus. In addition to classroom facilities, the project will provide teachers, essential educational resources such as desks and computers, and food for students and staff. Through this investment, GEMS Development Foundation aims to expand access to education and create lasting opportunities for children and the broader community in Aweil.
CLASSROOMS
Many classes in South Sudan are held outdoors, with students sitting on the ground under trees. This exposes students to harsh conditions such as extreme heat, wind, rain, and poisonous insects, creating a difficult teaching environment for educators to connect with students effectively. Our fundraising project includes building four new classrooms for Angor Chui Primary grade levels 1-4.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Students at Angor Chui Primary School can benefit greatly from access to basic educational supplies like blackboards, chalk, pencils and textbooks. Teachers can teach and students can learn more effectively with the right tools! A good educational foundation is the key to a more promising future.
CLEAN WATER & NUTRITION
Students who are hungry or sick from waterborne disease can have greater difficulty focusing on their school work. Supporting basic needs for clean water and nutrition can create better educational outcomes. Many Angor Chuei students walk from long distances to get to school, and many don’t have food to bring from home. In addition to the well provided by generous GEMS donors, we are now supporting a farm project to grow sorghum and local tree nuts in the school courtyard so students will not have to go hungry during the school day.

Angor Chuei Primary School
Humanitarian cyclist Larry Chatterley will rode across the country during the summer of 2024 to benefit GEMS Development Foundation and Angor Chuei Primary School! Starting on June 3rd in Washington State and ending on August 17th in Bangor, Maine, the trek covered 4,300 miles and featured elevation gains of over 150,000 feet. Over the last several years, Larry has ridden over 10,000 miles for various charities. In 2022, he rode from Canada to Mexico and raised $80,000 for GEMS, enough to install 12 new wells in South Sudan. Because Larry donates his time and efforts, all donations and sponsorship funding is able to go directly to the project! With a goal of $25,000, the funds raised from this charity ride will build 4 new classrooms, and purchase chairs, benches, textbooks, pencils, school bags, blackboards. chalk, and farming equipment for Angor Chuei Primary School. Your donation will help children in South Sudan have hope for a brighter future through the power of education.
